The restaurant is housed in an old Victorian mansion. Bright and spacious, it overlooks East Melbourne's Fitzroy Gardens, and is just a few minutes stroll from the heart of the city.

The menu at Le Gourmet is updated on a seasonal basis. Dishes are prepared using the highest possible standards both in the selection of the raw material and in the preparation. The traditional French cuisine is complimented with subtle influences from Austria (a legacy of the training and experience Erich Mohr has acquired over the years). Daily specials often feature previews of dishes to be included in new menus and the impressive award winning wine list includes some great Australian wines as well as a choice selection of French wines.

Le Gourmet is open for dinner (Tues - Sat) and executive lunches (Tues - Fri) and is the perfect setting for parties, weddings, and private functions.
Le Gourmet will also open for Sunday and Monday lunch or dinner, if a party of 20 people or upwards books in advance. The restaurant seats 110 comfortably and offers private function rooms from 10 guests upwards. Victorian and national winemaker's dinners are regularly held at Le Gourmet.

The Chef and Management - Erich Mohr

Erich Mohr, first started Le Gourmet as a BYO restaurant in 1981 in Melbourne's Brunswick St, Fitzroy. For the next eight years, Le Gourmet consistently rated as 'one of the best BYOs in Melbourne', according to the Good Food Guides of 1982-1989.

In 1989, Erich left Australia to run a hotel restaurant in Bavaria, Germany. While away, Erich won many major awards including 'One Hat' in the 'Guide Gault Millau' and 3 forks in the 'Micheline Guide'. His restaurant was also voted by 'Feinschmecker Magazine' as being among the 'Best 500 Restaurants in Germany'.

Erich returned to Melbourne in 1994 and restarted Le Gourmet Restaurant in Albert St, East Melbourne. The new Le Gourmet has already won a 'One Hat' award in the 94/95 and 95/96 'Age Good Food Guide'.

Erich's training as a Chef began in 1963 in Austria. Erich then continued on to become Headchef of a hotel in world famous ski resort Lech, Austria. During this time Erich hosted dinners for famous guests including Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden, Prince Hussain of Jordania and many more. During the offseason, Erich worked as chef in France (Alsace), USA (Atlanta), Germany (Black Forrest) and finally in 1978 in Australia's Mt Buller ski resort.
